Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - West College Corner, IN.

There are programs available in or near West College Corner that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
