Treatment clients referred from the court for substance abuse treatment are usually referred because they are being granted a chance to accept rehabilitation rather than face jail time, other charges, fines, etc. Although this is more prevalent with first time offenders, it can be offered at any point including while the defendant is being held in jail. There are different types of facilities that offenders can be referred to, and it usually depends on what is local to West Lebanon and the type of substance the person requires treatment for.
There are treatment programs that work exclusively with the criminal justice court system to administer to this explicit type of clientele, and are usually publicly-funded or are available at no cost or very little cost to the client. Additionally, there are also private addiction recovery facilities that may be accepted by the court if there is a specific type of rehabilitation that the client requires or prefers that a state-funded program can't provide. The client's attorney can request such alternatives to the judge for approval. There are even drug and alcohol treatment programs that provide services from the correctional facilities themselves, whereas clients are sometimes in a better position for reduced sentences or other leniencies when engaging in drug treatment services while serving their time for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
