The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Georgetown. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various rehab services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly permitted. In additional to this, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis.
