SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Patuxent River, MD.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab centers in Patuxent River are programs who are officially permitted to dispense the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment program can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the kind of accreditation that was given.
