Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Bergland, MI.

Vivitrol is a med mainly administered to help prevent drug use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release type of the medication Naltrexone, which one can get via injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would usually be activated by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual takes a drink of alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get drunk or high.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. Firstly, someone who intends to start Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This includes individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking drugs such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or someone who has been taking Methadone for a long time, abrupt cessation can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of seven days in order to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Bergland that also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak with your therapist or Dr. about how pharmacological tools can help you build the drug-free life you want.
