Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Goodells, MI.

There are programs offered in or near Goodells which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will instead no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
