Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Hamilton, MI.

There are addiction programs available in or near Hamilton that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to manage the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do deliver a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is encouraged.
