Intensive outpatient treatment, also known as "IOP", is a method of recovery from a substance abuse problem that is substantially more involved and comprehensive than a normal outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is fundamental activity for individuals in Hamtramck who have just completed residential or inpatient rehab, and still require moderate support and intervention while they progress to a clean and sober and ethical way of living. IOP's consist of therapy which takes place more often than regular outpatient, where clients will participate in the treatment on a part time basis unless otherwise adjudicated.
Intensive outpatient treatment normally consists of individual and group counseling meetings to continue to help address the individual's addiction. Individual sessions will take place at least once a week, and group sessions will provide the peer support that is essential for long term sobriety. In intensive outpatient treatment, clients work on refining relapse prevention skills, managing every day stresses and vulnerabilities, and how to manage any discomforts and cravings. Some intensive outpatient rehab programs offer family and couples/marriage counseling into the recovery process, which may be essential for people who need to rebuild their relationships with their families and loved ones.
