Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Hillman, MI.

There are programs offered in or near Hillman which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and this is recommended and encouraged.
