There are recovery programs offered in or near Hope which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will instead not engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.
Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is recommended and encouraged.
