Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Ironwood, MI.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Ironwood which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will ideally not engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do deliver a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary treatment, and it is encouraged.
