Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Loretto, MI.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Loretto that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will instead no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment objective is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is encouraged.
