There are substance abuse programs available in or near Mikado which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will ideally no longer engage in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.
Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
