There are recovery programs offered in or near Mulliken which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.
Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do deliver a small amount of counseling and therapy as secondary services, and it is encouraged.
