Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Oden, MI.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Oden which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will instead not engage in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do provide a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is recommended and encouraged.
