There are addiction programs available in or near Parchment that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will ideally not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.
Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to treat the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do offer a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
