Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Potterville, MI.

There are programs offered in or near Potterville that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to manage the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
