Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Ramsay, MI.

There are substance abuse programs available in or near Ramsay that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will instead no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary services, and it is encouraged.
