Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - St. Charles, MI.

There are programs available in or near St. Charles that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will instead not engage in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and it is encouraged.
