SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Arco, MN.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Arco are programs who are legally allowed to dispense the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment facility can receive initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the type of accreditation it has been given.
