The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Buffalo are programs who are officially allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements.
