The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its duties is the administering of opioid rehab programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Byron are programs that are legally allowed to distribute the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get ancillary services in addition to medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab center can receive basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the kind of accreditation that was given.
