American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to require recovery services for drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. Reversely, American Indians and Alaska Natives are also more likely to feel the need to seek treatment than other racial/ethnic groups. Almost 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native addiction treatment admissions arrive to treatment as criminal justice clients, which means they have most likely accepted a diversion option to receive treatment in lieu of jail time. So therefore, there is definitely a need for different types of treatment programs to cover all of the various requirements of this client demographic, including addiction treatment programs in native languages.
One of the challenges that American Indian and Alaska Natives in Clearbrook face is access to comprehensive rehab programs, particularly those who live in secluded locations. Facilities providing addiction treatment services in rural regions may not be capable of offering strategic planning intended for the needs of this special group of people including addiction treatment services in their native language.
