SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Duluth, MN.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Duluth are programs that are officially allowed to give out the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits in addition to medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can get their basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification that was given.
