Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Finland, MN.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Finland which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will instead not engage in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do deliver a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
