Intensive outpatient treatment, or "IOP", is a form of rehabilitation for an addiction problem that is substantially more comprehensive and involved than a regular outpatient program. Intensive outpatient treatment is an essential action for clients in Loretto who have recently finished residential or inpatient treatment, and still require adequate assistance and encouragement while they progress to a drug free and wholesome way of living. IOP's involve therapy which takes place more often than normal outpatient, where clients will participate in the treatment on a part time basis unless otherwise adjudicated.
Intensive outpatient treatment typically consists of group and sometimes individualized counseling meetings to continue to treat the individual's addiction. Individual sessions often take place at least once a week, and group sessions will add the peer support that is often crucial for long term sobriety. In intensive outpatient treatment, focus is placed on improving relapse prevention skills, managing every day stresses and triggers, and how to manage any discomforts and drug cravings. Some intensive outpatient treatment programs offer family and couples/marriage counseling into the treatment process, which can be beneficial for individuals who must rebuild their relationships with their families and loved ones.
