Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - New Auburn, MN.

There are addiction programs available in or near New Auburn that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is recommended and encouraged.
