The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications given are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in New Germany are programs who are officially permitted to give out the drugs used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services in addition to medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can get their basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification that was given.
