The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehab facilities, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Sabin are programs who are legally permitted to distribute the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary services aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment program can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation program is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification that was given.
