American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to be in need to rehabilitation for substance abuse and addiction. On the Contrary, American Indians and Alaska Natives are more likely to seek treatment on their own will more than other racial/ethnic groups. Roughly 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native addiction treatment admissions arrive to rehab as criminal justice clients, meaning they have very likely agreed to a court ordered diversion program to receive rehab instead of jail time.
