The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Drug given are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Vermillion are programs who are officially permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also get ancillary services aside from medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years depending on the type of accreditation that was granted.
