The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients.
