The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its obligations is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Wyoming are programs that are officially allowed to dispense the medicines used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. An opioid treatment center can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab facility is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the type of accreditation it has been given.
