Crisis Intervention Team - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Elliott, MS.

A crisis event, such as a person struggling with the devastating repercussions of a mental health disability such as a drug or alcohol addiction, calls for an intervention by a team of professionals who can help get them the help they need before it's too late. A Crisis Intervention Team in Elliott is a form of community monitoring which calls upon and activates law enforcement, healthcare, and other relevant agencies as well as family members to help those in crisis. This begins with the training and education of healthcare providers, law enforcement officers, and other relevant team members in the community so they know how to address the situation and work together during such a crisis. There are training programs available to educate law enforcement officers and 911 emergency dispatchers for example, which involves 40 hours of training in collaborating with the mental health professionals they will be working with during the crisis, refining verbal de-escalation techniques so that they can address and resolve the crisis without it turning into a potentially violent or hostile situation, etc.

In many cases, Crisis Intervention Teams are used as a means of jail diversion. Meaning, being able to appropriately respond to what is really meant to be a mental health disturbance and not a crime keeps people having a mental health crisis out of jail and instead where they should be, in treatment and getting help. This also keeps people with mental health disorders out of prison where they do not have access to adequate mental health therapy and resources to appropriately address their issue, such as a substance abuse disorder. Rather than in jail, individuals in crisis can receive behavioral therapies, counseling, medication and other treatment to rehabilitate them. This not only benefits the individual in crisis, but also all of society because it costs more to incarcerate someone with a mental health disorder in prison than it does to properly treat them in an appropriate mental health recovery program.
