The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Aurora are programs which are legally permitted to dispense the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
