The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Boone are programs which are legally permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get ancillary benefits in addition to medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid rehab program can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the type of accreditation that was given.
