SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Gloucester, NC.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid treatment programs, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Gloucester are programs which are officially allowed to distribute the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get ancillary benefits in addition to medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment center can receive basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment program is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the type of certification that was granted.
