The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehab programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Greensboro are programs which are officially allowed to distribute the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get ancillary benefits aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid rehab program can receive initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the kind of accreditation it has been given.
