Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Lowland, NC.

One of the outpatient treatment options for clients in Lowland struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed clinics and doctors are certified to give specific meds to opioid dependent individuals, many of which are opioids also and are habit forming. With low enough amounts however, the user doesn't experience high feelings but also doesn't have intense cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug tried for this reason, but there are alternative options to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an out-patient medical center certified to administer the drug, which is taken daily in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is a pill often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be administered in well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is approximately $300.00 per month for the generic of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a drug that reverses the effects of opiates. An individual taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and costs about $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional drug used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
