The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Pinehurst are programs which are legally permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid treatment center can receive initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of accreditation it has been given.
