The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Turkey are programs that are legally allowed to give out the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also get auxiliary benefits in addition to medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab center can receive basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every three years depending on the type of certification that was given.
