Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Concord, NH.

One of the outpatient treatment alternatives for clients in Concord who are struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Licensed facilities and doctors are authorized to administer specific medications to opioid dependent clients, many of which are opioids themselves and are habit forming. In low amounts however, the individual does not experience high feelings but also does not experience severe cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug administered for this reason, but there are alternative choices currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an outpatient medical center certified to dispense the drug, that is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The cost of the drug is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based med, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But different from Methadone that is only be given in highly well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is around $300 a month for the generic version of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a med that reverses the effects of opioids. An individual taking this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and costs around $450 /month. Naltrexone is an additional medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it is an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
