A requirement that MAT clients must also receive ancillary benefits in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years depending on the type of accreditation it has been given.
