If an individual is getting outpatient detox they must go to the center assisting them with their detoxification daily or at least 5 days a week in most cases. Outpatient detox services are either done in the daytime or evening, which makes it perfect for a person who must keep a regular work or school schedule. Certain programs also offer ways to get detoxification treatment in a choice of normal outpatient or outpatient day treatment, to improve detox services and try to prevent relapse.
A standard amount of time individuals participate in outpatient detoxification is approximately seven days. Some facilities use medication assisted detox approaches while others offer drug free detox services. There are times when medications are needed to prevent deadly withdrawal symptoms, like with alcohol and benzodiazepine medications where seizures are at times an issue. Alternatively, staff at the program help individuals manage their physical, emotional and psychological symptoms of cravings and withdrawal until they are detoxified and stabilized.
While outpatient detox in Moriah Center is more flexible for apparent reasons, a severe disadvantage is that clients are at a greater chance of falling back into addiction due to the access they maintain to alcohol and drugs. Ideally, clients will then go into a full rehabilitation program to address the causes of their addiction once outpatient or inpatient detoxification is finished.
