Medicaid is an insurance option for low-income families that due to the Affordable Care Act must cover basic drug and alcohol rehabilitation services. Medicaid is currently the single largest payer for mental health treatment services in the U.S., and is beginning to play an important role in the reimbursements of treatment for drug and alcohol treatment. Medicaid subscribers will want to consider that while this is the case, not all facilities accept Medicaid. At facilities which do take Medicaid, clients won't have co-payments in most states. For states which do charge co-pays, there are limits to the out-of-pocket expenses for subscribers. Services covered by Medicaid include intervention, screenings, medication maintenance, counseling, detox, inpatient, long-term residential, outpatient and behavioral health services.
