The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Portland are programs which are officially permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. An opioid rehabilitation center can get their initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year.
