There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a med that blocks the effects of opioids. Someone taking this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs approximately $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents a person from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
