Medicaid is an insurance program for low-income families that because of the Affordable Care Act must cover basic substance abuse rehabilitation services. Medicaid is currently the single largest payer for mental health services in the U.S., and is starting to play a significant role in the reimbursements of substance abuse treatment services. Medicaid subscribers will want to take into account that while this is the case, not all rehabilitation centers accept Medicaid. At rehabilitation programs which do accept Medicaid, clients won't have co-payments in most states. For states which do charge co-pays, there are limits to the out-of-pocket expenses for recipients. Services covered by Medicaid consist of screenings, intervention, medication maintenance, counseling, inpatient, detox, outpatient, long-term residential and mental health services.

If a person in Oklahoma City is interested in getting Medicaid to pay for treatment, they must satisfy the following guidelines: 1) Be over 65 years of age or under 19 years old 2) be pregnant or a parent and 3) fit within a specified income bracket. Each state also has their own rules, restrictions and qualification requisites and these change every year.
