Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Fields, OR.

There are addiction programs available in or near Fields that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
