The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can pick a primary doctor and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol treatment services in Grants Pass. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detox are restricted to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually accepted. In additional to this, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished prior rehabilitation services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
